The Ontario Fire Marshal's office was called to investigate a July 11 fire at the Jonesy Jr. hotdog cart on Mapleview Drive at the Canadian Tire lot.

"Crews were called at 2:30 a.m.," Barrie Fire Chief Cory Mainprize said. "It was called in by someone driving by and was well involved when we got there."

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and kept watch overnight to secure the scene.

Mainprize said the fire marshal is called "any time a fire is deemed suspicious," and an investigation is underway.

He noted the food truck damage is significant, with estimated losses in excess of $100,000.

On July 12, Barrie police asked for the public's help to track down a man riding a mountain bike around the time of the fire, which officers believe is an arson.

The man either had dark hair or a dark coloured hat and was wearing dark clothing and a backpack. Police released a surveillance photo and are concerned he might have been injured or burned as a result of the fire. He was seen heading east on the sidewalk of Mapleview Drive West around 2:20 a.m.

Anyone with tips can call Sgt. Castonguay at 705-725-7025 ext. 2953.

This isn't the first time a fire has set the Jonesy's business back. In 2018, the business was set on fire on Sept. 19. The trailer had its electricity and gas disconnected and was deliberately set on fire.
