This naked-looking manicure could be just what you need!

Along with being low maintenance, chic and pretty, natural-looking nails are this summer's hottest nail look. "Natural nails look fresh and less uptight," says Carla Opoku founder of Cienna Rose. "Just like Rochelle Hulmes' manicure, there's no bold, opaque colours to hide behind so nails really do need to look bright and groomed." We've got the professional tips and products you need to to create your own natural-looking manicure at home!

The nail polish remover "A healthy sheen on bare, buffed nails is always a winner but it’s crucial to get the basics right," says Carla. To begin, make sure your nails are clean and tidy. It's worth washing hands to remove any dirt and remember to clean underneath nails. You can also give nails a quick once-over with nail polish remover to wipe away any stubborn bits of polish.

The cuticle oil "The first step to happier (and healthier looking) nails is to focus on cuticles," says Carla. "Cuticle care is beneficial in the same way that conditioner is vital for strong and healthy hair." A twice daily application of a nail oil boosts moisture levels and softens dry, rough skin.

The nail file Neat, well-groomed nails are key to this look so a nail file is one of the most important tools you'll need. "Remember to always file in a single direction and don't go back and forth in a see-saw action as this can spilt the nail plate," says Daisy Kalnina, founder of Peacci. Most professionals recommend using glass files over harsher emery boards as their ultra-fine texture is gentler on nails.

The buffer "Buffing once a week is a brilliant way to create healthy, bright-looking nails," says Carla. "It increases blood circulation to the nail bed and helps to remove ridges and give a smoother surface." Carla suggests using a four sided buffer so you can work your way up from the polishing exfoliating fabric to the softer material which gives a high shine finish.

The natural-looking polish To finish your natural manicure, leave nails bare to showcase their healthy looking sheen. If you feel incomplete without a slick of polish apply a skin-toned neutral shade followed by a high-shine top coat like Essie Nail Care Gel Setter Nail Polish Top Coat, £8.99. We rate Peacci's Nu Nudes Collection, from £10. The 12-piece collection contains an inclusive range of colours for every skin tone.
