In-your-face blush is so hot right now

Whether you were first in line when the nightclubs reopened, or decided to bide your time before going out-out, there’s no denying that a night on the town has changed in the last two or more years.

I often forget that we are all older now — sadly, time didn’t stop during the pandemic — so social situations may look very different. I’m sparing a thought for all of the newer parents who didn’t have to worry about FOMO or childminders until now, too.

Since my nickname is Party McCarthy, here are a few of my top tips for the new nights out.

First up, getting ready is often the best fun, especially if you bang out some tunes, and it’s even better if you have a friend or, often in my case, my daughter, Mini, to hang with.

I’m the Kween of Taxis as I don’t drive, so I always like to pre-book one. It’s so handy knowing you won’t be stuck traipsing around, trying to hail a cab at midnight.

Secondly, I do a quick stocktake of my make-up bag. If your handbag is big enough, pack some flats — we’ve all got so used to wearing slippers that stilettos can definitely take their toll.

Finally, don’t forget to drink water in between each drink — tomorrow you will thank yourself or, as my sister Anna says: “Future Triona will thank you!” I should probably follow my own advice!

In-your-face blush is so hot right now. To achieve the trend, find a good blendable powder blush and apply it around the edge of your face in a C-shape — it’s like contouring, but with blusher as opposed to bronzer.

Then, for a glowy finish, pop a liquid highlighter along the cheek and brow bones.

Thinning hair and hair loss are hot topics lately. We can all agree that a light was shone on the issue by way of the Smith/Rock fiasco at the Oscars.

Hair experts at Peter Mark recently conducted a study that revealed one-third of women have issues with thinning hair and 76pc of women say that they have noticed hair loss during periods of stress.

Model Tyra Banks, pictured, is in this percentage.

It can be tough, seeing as hair can say so much about us and compliments our femininity.

Ain’t no shame in being vain when it comes to what makes us feel good.

So Peter Mark is using a Nioxin consultation tool to assess scalp health.

Available in its salons nationwide, women who are concerned about hair breakage or thinning can book a free consultation with a specialist who will use the latest technology to assess the health of their scalp and hair.

Consultations are free and can be booked online at Peter Mark or in your local salon.

It will always be what’s on the inside that counts and that goes for beauty too.

Let me explain: getting into the habit of taking a daily supplement is a great way to achieve fabulous results that work from the inside and show on the outside — of course, always consult your GP before starting supplements.

I’m all for the ones that don’t feel like a chore, so Swedish Collagen, available from pharmacies nationwide, is right up my street.

It comes in a wild berry flavour and works to prevent wrinkles, thanks to the key ingredient.

With 12,500 to 10,000mg of collagen per dose, along with hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and minerals, it strengthens and supports the collagen present in the body.

It’s food for your skin, hair and nails and comes in four options, three of which contain marine collagen, while Swedish Collagen Vegan 500ml, €32.95, is packed with vegan amino acids and active ingredients that work to boost collagen levels in the body.

Here’s a super secret weapon to add to the beauty arsenal.

Shiseido Intensive WrinkleSpot Treatment, €101, Brown Thomas, targets lines, wrinkles and dark spots and promises you’ll see a difference in four weeks.

I recently trialled it and, thanks to the retinol in it, was very pleased with the results.

My forehead and laughter lines improved, which is exactly what I need, seeing as I’m not the most serious person in the world. See brownthomas.com

Sally Hansen good. kind. pure nail colour range, €10.99 each

There’s nothing like a salon-fresh manicure. I really missed them during the pandemic and while I’ve bounced back and have been paying my favourite spots a visit since everything opened again, there are times when an at-home option has to do.

Thankfully, the choice has never been better — largely down to the nail looks that trend online on the regular.

Whenever I pop on to Insta, there’s a new look to try out.

During the pandemic, I actually created a little folder of photos on my phone, where I keep everything that catches my eye.

For an earth-friendlier option, check out the Sally Hansen good. kind. pure nail colour range, €10.99 each, available in pharmacies nationwide.

This range is plant-based and 100pc vegan and comes in nine earthy colours, along with a top coat for added longevity.

The formula includes marine algae and sustainable bamboo and even the brush is plant-based.

Long-time nail experts may have noticed that some of Lottie London’s products took a bit of a break in recent years.

Now, six years later, the beauty brand is relaunching Lottie Nails.

This is another vegan nail offering with the added bonus of nail stickers to really elevate a manicure.

The collection includes 22 coloured nail polishes that are made with up to 80pc natural ingredients, are 100pc vegan and PETA-approved, for €4.97 a pop.

The Stick To It nail sticker collection has up to 250 nail-art stickers per packet, with a choice of four sets, €5.97 each.

See lottie.london (Items from the UK may incur extra charges for Republic of Ireland customers).

If you haven’t time to go to a salon, at-home falsies are a lifesaver.

But you have to make sure to pick good ones that will look natural and are easy to apply.

So say hello to the KISS collection of nails.

If you’re already a fan, you may know imPRESS Nails, Gel Fantasy and Salon Acrylic Nails, but now the collection has been expanded with KISS Jelly Fantasy, €11.75, and Kiss Gel Fantasy Sculpted Nails, €10.

KISS products are available in McCabes and pharmacies nationwide.

This is a really exciting new launch. Is there anything Primark Beauty isn’t turning its hand to these days?

Now, you can pop into Penneys/Primark and check out this eight-piece collection of electrical tools, which includes an LED Nail Lamp, for only €10. Impressive!
