Some people passing by a closed business in the heart of downtown Binghamton were intrigued when they spotted colorful lights and a disco ball inside the place.
The light display inside what had been Dos Rios Cantina at 60 Court Street has prompted questions about what might be going on at the former restaurant site. Uvc Lamp
Dos Rios and a related next-door business, The Colonial, ceased operations last April. A large exterior "Dos Rios" sign was removed from the building in August and the site was listed for lease.
In recent weeks, there's been growing speculation about the future of the property with unconfirmed reports that a new restaurant may be opened at the site.
Yaron Kweller, a representative of the building owner Court and State LLC, said there have been talks with potential tenants. In an email, he wrote: "We are currently in negotiation with two tenants for the former dos rios space and look forward sharing details once a deal is finalized." He declined to comment identify those who have expressed an interest in the site.
Although the colorful lights remain on inside the former restaurant, Kweller indicated he was aware of no recent activity. In the email, he said: "If there was a party on New Year’s Eve at 60 Court Street- this is the first I have heard of it and did not make the invite list."
This story was updated to include additional comment from Yaron Kweller.
